February 2008
Scott Schneider, President of Volant Solutions, exhibiting in Halliburton’s booth, presented a live demonstration of a workflow that integrates the G & G interpretation environment with the Drilling/Engineering rig environment. The demonstration illustrated an integrated workflow between Landmark’s OpenWorks geosicence data management suite and Landmark’s OpenWells Drilling Operations and Reporting application running on an EDM (Engineer’s Data Model) database. Mr. Schneider demonstrated Well/Wellbore data, Formation Tops data and Directional Survey data flowing seamlessly between the Geoscience and Drilling/Engineering environments. This workflow provides insight into the vision that closes the loop between “office-based” G & G activities and rig-based Drilling operations to facilitate more timely and accurate interaction between these two organizations. See the associated presentation for more details on this integrated workflow.

June 2007
Volant Solutions and Intervera Data Solutions successfully hosted their Houston Roundtable Workshop series on “Achieving the Trusted Well”. The session was hosted by Marathon Oil Company and attended by an impressive list of participants from Anadarko Petroleum Corp., BP, BHP Billiton Petroleum, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Hess Corporation, Nexen Petroleum USA Inc., Occidental Petroleum, and XTO Energy. Attendees were given an opportunity to openly discuss the different definitions of a trusted well list, challenges that they are facing within their own organization, how to manage well data, and best practices in building a roadmap to success.

Learning to Trust Your Data: Real Time Quality Integration for G&G Professionals (Presented by Paul Gregory from Intervera and Scott Schneider from Volant Solutions)

Software advances in recent years have changed the way Exploration and Production (E&P) companies utilize and manage geotechnical data. Contemporary geoscience interpretation applications are "data hungry" and able to consume more types of data from diverse sources at a higher rate of speed. Because of the variability of data, technology, data capture methods, and data accuracy levels collected over the extensive operating history of a well's lifecycle, the challenge in the E&P industry remains how can you trust the data tthat you depend upon daily? The more important qyestion might be "how can you NOT trust the data" upon which multi-million dollar drilling decisions are being made on a regular basis?

This paper describes how the application of contemporary software technology can improve the decision-making process by adding a dimension of confidence through data quality as data is moved betwee various geoscience applications and corporate databases.
